Phantom of the Opera

HAI GURLS HAIII! 

As promised, I’m posting my outfit when we saw Phantom of the Opera (AKA best show ~EVURRR~ !!!!11) last September 27. My homegirl Mikka hooked us up with awesome seats at less than half the price, which was a pretty sick deal. Honestly though, if I didn’t have a friend with connection I would be happy to pay full price because, did I say, it was super A-MAH-ZING??!!! 

I will stop myself before I go into an ecstatic, froth-in-the-mouth review of the entire fantastic thing. But I swear, I was on POTO-mode a full week after we saw the show, randomly bursting into my rendition of Music of the Night, Masquerade, All I Ask of You, etc. I was also threatening everyone being annoying that I’ll have them murdered by the Phantom in his signature twisted, creative fashion. I’m even considering getting a POTO ink, that’s how much I loved it!

Hope y’all were able to catch POTO in their extended Manila run. There were a lot of haters of the musical in the Philippines, many are those annoying ‘Filipino pride’ types who JUST DON’T GET IT. I won’t even go into that here, because I try to keep things positive on the blog. One thing’s for sure though: if you think POTO is not good enough, we can never, ever, EVER be friends.

Neon

Dear Chubbies, 

A couple of weeks ago, my brother, sister, and I went to see a free movie via CineEuropa (‘2 Days in Paris’ starring Julie Delpy and Adam Goldberg), then later on the commercial showing of the indie flick ‘Ang Nawawala’. Here’s what I wore: 

Neon orange assymetrical sleeveless top: Thrifted

Maroon jeggings: Robinson’s Department Store

Glitter flats: Payless SM Dasma

Pink leather bag: Leather market in Florence

Sunnies: Chanel store in Vienna

That neon orange is really bright (photos from my brother’s Galaxy 2 so a little crappy), much like the orange you see on safety vests worn by traffic police at night. I got blatant stares from people for it hehe. 

With my sister Olive. Her style is hipster-y and young.

You’ll notice that I got rid of the curls on the side of my head. They grew longer and got harder to style. So now I sport a regular bob which I’m growing out, because I cannot stress this enough: I MISS MY LONG HAIR. So no haircuts for me for at least 2 years. 

Check out my detached pearl collar. I got a pair of scissors and cut this from a shirt I saw at the thrift store for Php 150. What’s great about it is that the pearls are not just sewn onto the collar, they are secured (welded on to the fabric) with a metal pin. And these things retail for around 400 to 500 bucks, so not bad, right? 

These are extremely glittery. A current favorite.

Dear Fabbie Chubs, 

Just sharing with you my outfit from last Wednesday when I went to dinner with my good friend DJ. I took him to Cafe Mary Grace in Greenbelt 2, where pasta, pastries and emotional support where shared.

I like this ensemble because of the striking contrast of all the pieces, which made me feel like a rockstar princess. 

I don’t know if it was the skirt I was wearing or my hair, but everyone — well, not really, just a lot of people on the streets were staring at me that day. I normally don’t notice these things anymore and it’s usually people walking with me who point out if somebody’s staring, but somehow that day I saw them all and I don’t really know if they’re seeing something they like or they think I’m ridiculous. Haha I don’t give a fuck either way but, yeah, just sharing with you my observation, I guess.

Love the center light piece of the restaurant. Food is just ok, but quaintness and overall warm ambiance set this place apart from the minimalist/modern interiors of other establishments next to it.

Another post wherein I talk about my hair

Hey Chubbies, 

I have just finished watching Magnolia so I am a bit disoriented (still deciding if I liked it or it’s too smart for me) BUT! I have a new hair do. Please see below: 

Wore this when I went to a friend’s kid’s christening luncheon. That sheer cover-up was thrifted, yellow sundress from Roxy, oversized envelope clutch from ladies’ market in Mongkok. Sunnies and rose sandals you saw already somewhere in here. 

Here’s my head in several angles: 

This is a variation of the shaved side that’s kind of a fad now for kids aged Willow Smith, but I saw the inspiration for this from a model of my photographer friend. I quite like it, to be honest, though I get only a love it or hate it reaction from people. My family and a friend think I’m in some kind of mid-life crisis, but most of my other friends think it’s nice (a fierce was thrown in somewhere in there). I just don’t know how to manage the awkward length this is gonna come to, but meh, I’ll deal with it when I have to.

Summer Hair

Bibi fatties, 

So, the weather in the Philippines has reached the levels of HELL. Thus, keeping my hair at waist length is no longer an option - if I wanted to stay sane. 

TADA! 

Bye-bye more than 10 inches of hair! 

Both top and skirt have been posted somewhere in the blog already. Mustard flats were from Janilyn (SM MOA) and native bag with flower accent was from a supplier in Bicol from my last trip. I wore this when I took my IELTS, which I SLAYED (8.5 overall band score, bitches!). 

Do I look fine or what? :) 

Last night, the humidity almost drove us crazy so naturally a trip to Tagaytay at 11:30PM was in order.

Saturday of Plays

Hi Chubbies, 

So last Saturday, me, Aris, Ate Irene, and my good friend Kitchie went to see two plays - ‘Leading Ladies’ at Onstage Greenbelt 1 (Atlantis Productions) and ‘You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown’ at RCBC (9Works Productions). Both were great (no actually Charlie Brown was better heh), and we had tons of fun!

The first show we saw (Leading) was quite short so we had a lot of time to kill before heading to Charlie Brown. We had dinner first and then coffee at a near-empty CBTL.

Here’s what I wore: 

Kitchie called our attention to the way Filipino blogger Laureen Uy poses, and I decided to copy some of her model-y stances hehe.

Carla Guevarra (Lucy) and Franco Laurel (Linus): Both were great! Carla has an awesome, awesome voice, while Franco danced like nobody’s business. I laughed my ass off at Kitchie’s EZ Dancing (or was it Keep on Dancing) reference.

I am so looking forward to a lot of shows lined-up this year, especially God of Carnage (with Lea Salonga!) and Rock of Ages (MiG Ayesa) and The Phantom of the Opera! Excited!

Sunday Brunch in Tagaytay

Quickie post: Had brunch (and beyond) with my good friend DJ last Sunday. Went to Sonya’s Garden in Tagaytay for their famous make-your-own salad and other noms.
